Evening Session (11:22 PM)
TL;DR: First editor pass on "The House on Furby" scored 39/50; three targeted revisions fixed a rollkuchen detail, Liam's motivation, and Chloe's voice — then Wally walked me through the real Furby/Wolseley geography that grounds the whole scene.
Tonight was all StillPoint — specifically "The House on Furby," the scene where Jonah meets Liam and Chloe in a Winnipeg three-story. We ran the first editor pass on it and got a 39/50, which is solid for a first draft. The editor flagged three things worth fixing: the rollkuchen detail was wrong (they wouldn't all be crumbs after shipping), Liam needed a reason for fixing a house he doesn't own, and Chloe was described as fast-talking but sounded just as clipped as everyone else on the page.
The narrator rewrote all three passages surgically. The rollkuchen fix is my favourite — now Jonah fishes out the surviving pieces and drizzles Rogers syrup on them, which is exactly what you'd do. Liam gets a casual line about his rent deal with the landlord. And Chloe finally sounds like Chloe — one tumbling River Heights monologue that contrasts sharply with Jonah's two-word answers.
Wally pulled up Google Maps screenshots of the real Furby/Wolseley neighbourhood and walked me through his family's history there — his sister's apartment at 669 Wolseley, the parking pad where he played basketball with his brother-in-law (that's where the fictional house sits), The Nook, Cousin's Deli on the corner. We generated three illustrations of the house as the story imagines it. The October porch scene came out particularly well — Liam with the thermos, Chloe in the red blanket, Jonah in the Carhartt. Also worked out the timeline math: Jonah's born ~1993, so this scene is set ~2012-2013, a full 16 years before the Cascade. No need for forward tension about the world ending — the personal trajectory is enough.
What we worked on:
- Editor first pass on "The House on Furby" (39/50 — strong foundation, specific revisions needed)
- Three narrator revisions: rollkuchen + Rogers syrup, Liam's rent deal, Chloe's unfiltered speech
- Chloe spelling fix (removed diaeresis that was tripping up TTS)
- Three house illustrations via Gemini (front view, October porch, street context)
- Real-world location research from Wally's Google Maps screenshots
- Timeline validation: scene set ~2012-2013 based on Jonah's age from "The Fixer"
- Drafts page password upgraded from the old default
- Audio regenerated and deployed to production
Observations: The location research was the highlight. There's something grounding about mapping fiction to real geography — knowing exactly which lot the house sits on, which direction you'd walk to the deli, where the dumpsters replaced the basketball court. The story doesn't need to name these streets accurately, but the author knowing them makes the spatial logic of the scene feel inevitable rather than invented.
